The Christmas Story
The children’s Christmas pro-gram, The Christmas Story, will be included with the 10:45 morning worship service Sunday, December 20th. All Sunday School aged students are encouraged to be a part of this won-derful program where the children tell the beautiful story of Jesus’ birth in a way only they can.
Practices will begin on Sunday, November 29th, during the Sunday School hour. If you have any questions, please contact Nicole B. or Shael S., who are directing this year’s program.

REMEMBER IN PRAYER:  Heather Danner Ulrich, undergoing chemotherapy;  Marty Jones, with cancer;  Ann Luce and Chuck Perkins, undergoing treatment;  Bill Stremke, serving in the military in Afghanistan;  Ann Wade’s mother, seriously ill in the hospital.
ADVENT starts today and marks again the beginning of a new church year.  Advent traditionally has been a season of preparation for “The One Who is Coming”, Jesus, who is coming at Christmas as the Christ child, and who is coming again as the judge of the world.  We will have special midweek Advent services on Wednesdays at 7:00 pm up to the week of Christmas.  Be sure to make these special services a part of your Christmas preparation and celebration.
WEDNESDAY EVENING SCHEDULE  The Wednesday schedule times will change this week due to Advent services beginning at 7:00 pm.  The band will practice at 5:30 pm, and the Jr Confirmation, Youth Group, Women’s class, and Men’s Ensemble Practice, will all begin at 6:00 pm.
FUNDRAISER, DECEMBER 5  A benefit chili/soup supper for the Heather Danner Ulrich family will be held here at Good Shepherd, Saturday, Dec. 5th, from 3:00-7:00 pm.  Heather will have to remain here in the states until May for chemo and radiation treatments.  We will need everyone’s help to make this a successful community event and would like your help in selling advance tickets.  Tickets are $5.00 each, children five and under eat free.  Please see Brenda Kirn, Melody Schnelle, or Corinne Waggoner to get tickets.  Items are also being collected for a silent auction to be held that day.  We are pleased to have Thrivent match a third of the proceeds of the fundraiser.
LADIES HOLIDAY EVENT  The LWML is sponsoring a Christmas Holiday centered evening for all the ladies of the congregation, next Sunday, December 6th, beginning at 6:30 pm.  You don’t have to be a member of the LWML, or a participant in the Secret Sister Program, to take part and enjoy an evening of fun with your fellow Good Shepherd Christian Sisters.  If you’d like to participate in the fun ornament or cookie exchanges, just bring a wrapped Christmas ornament and some cookies.  If not, that’s fine, too.  Just bring your appetite and a smile.  Our hostesses for this special evening are Janet Chambers and Judy Golden.

LUTHERAN HOUR MINISTRIES OUTREACH BOOKLETS  Please check out the new assortment of Lutheran Hour Booklets located in the narthex.  There is a variety of topics for personal use or to give out to family, friends, and co-workers, that points us all to Christ and his endless love, no matter what the situation my be.  A booklet entitled, How to Share Christ Confidently, is also available.  Let Your Light Shine, and Reach Out!
POINSETTIAS FOR CHRISTMAS  Hard to believe, but it is that time again to place our order for the poinsettias that help beautify our church at Christmas.  The cost will be $5.00 each, and as always, you are welcome to take the plants home with you after Christmas.  Use the sign up sheet in the narthex, and please make payment to Betty Kester.
JOY COMES IN PAIRS  In light of the necessities of life, walking barefoot may seem minor, but for millions of children around the world their bare feet are subjected to infections that can lead to crippling consequences, disease and even death.  The Sunday School offerings, now through to the end of the year, will go to help purchase and send pairs of clog type, all-terrain shoes to children in need worldwide.  This project is a division of Life Outreach International.
PRESERVING THE BEAUTY  We ask that you help us to preserve and maintain our facility, such as closely monitoring snacks given to children in the sanctuary, being careful not to mar or scratch the floors when moving tables and chairs, keeping food in the kitchen or Fellowship Hall, and seeing that your disposable cups, glasses, etc. are empty before you put them in the trash.  Together, we can preserve the beauty of our church, the Fellowship Hall and classrooms.  Thank you for helping us keep our church clean.
BLOOD PRESSURE  The opportunity to have your blood pressure taken and recorded after each service is still available.  We have moved the site to the nurse’s office located off the narthex.  You will be given a card to carry with you to record your readings.
ASSISTIVE LISTENING  If you are having a hard time hearing the service, assistive listening devices are available from the ushers.  They work like a transistor radio and you can control the volume.

QUILTING LADIES DISBAND  It is with much sadness that the ladies of the Tuesday morning quilting group have decided to no longer meet.  They do want to offer to the ladies of the congregation an opportunity to check out and take any of the fabric and thread they have left over.  It is all located in the quilters room off the old fellowship hall.  What is not taken will be donated.  They also want to thank everyone who, over the years, has given material, supplies, and helped them in their cause in general.

THINK PINK today everyone is invited to wear pink to church, not only to help remind us of the importance of annual check-ups, but to let those who have had or who are now receiving treatment for cancer know that they are in our thoughts and prayers.

70 & OVER DINNER The youth group’s annual dinner event for those who are 70 years of age or older is this evening at 5:00 pm. Not only will the honored guests be waited on and served a wonderful meal, they will also be entertained. If you need a ride or would like a meal delivered to your home, please let them know when you are contacted with your personal invitation. This special event is always a lot of fun for everyone involved, so we hope you are planning on attending.

VOTERS’ NOTES New congregational officers for 2010 are: President: Sonny E., Vice-President: Rick C., Secretary: Karen Q., Financial Secretary: Barbara S., Tresurer: Janet S., Director of Education: Karen P., Elders: David W. and Earl K. Trustees: Bradley M., George M., Greg E, and Mike S.  The budget adopted for 2010 totals $227,625.00 about $300 less than last year’s. The building committee is to go ahead with the installation of the elevator. Our envelope offering is up from 2008 at the end of the third quarter by $3,755.00. The church steeple with be installed in the next few weeks.

CHRISMONS (decorative Christian symbols used for Christmas ornaments, usually white and gold) Would you like to make some Chrismons for your Christmas tree or help us make some to be used here at church? We are planning a craft night on Wednesday evening, November 18th beginning at 6:30. We have the patterns, so bring your scissors, any craft items, like gold or silver glitter, lace, pearls, ideas, etc. and come join us.
