VOTERS’ MEETING The first Voters’ Meeting of 2010 will take place this evening, beginning at 7:00.

LWML The Ladies’ Missionary Group will meet this Wednesday evening at 6:30 in the Fellowship Hall.

ATTENTION GENTLEMEN First of all, thank you to those who have served as ushers in the past and to those who have committed to serve our congregation in 2010 as ushers.  You are appreciated.  On the table in the narthex, you will find an envelope with your name on it.  Inside you will find a brief letter from head usher, Tom D., the 2010 Usher Schedule, and an updated list of Usher Duties.  Please take the time to read these, and get back with Tom if you have any questions or need to change the month you are scheduled to usher.  Again, thank you!

SUPER SOUP SUNDAY Let’s make next Sunday a Super Soup Sunday by donating cans of soup to Crosslines of Carthage to be distributed to those in need in our community.  Please put your donations in the large Crosslines container found in the narthex or in the shopping cart in the entry way to the Fellowship Hall.  Also, the first Sunday of each month is Crosslines Canned Goods Sunday, so please remember to bring any non-perishable items on that day each month to help keep their shelves stocked.  Thank you.

FOR YOUR USE Next to the double doors at the front entrance to the narthex is a stand with a dispenser containing Purell hand sanitizer.  Please use freely, but be sure to monitor its use by your children.  Thank you.

ANNUAL YOUTH RUMMAGE SALE On Saturday, February 20th, from 8:00 am to noon, the Youth Group will be holding their 6th Annual Rummage Sale in the Youth Trailer.  You can help out by cleaning out your closets and garages to donate items for the sale.  Donated items can be dropped off between Sunday, February 7th, and Sunday, February 14th.  If you have items you need picked up, please contact Justin M. or Brenda D.  All proceeds will help send Youth members to the LCMS National Youth Gathering this summer in New Orleans.  Thank you for your support!

HAITI RELIEF, HOW CAN YOU HELP? Pray.  Please pray for those in harm’s way, who have lost loved ones, homes and livelihoods.  Pray the response efforts of the LCMS World Relief touches lives with God’s hope and mercy.  Also give.  Donations are urgently needed.  Your donation may be placed in the collection plate (designated Haiti relief), and we will send it on to LCMS World Relief and Human Care to aid in the response efforts in Haiti.

LADIES The Lutheran Women’s Quarterly is available on the table in the narthex.  Please pick up your copy.

THEOLOGICAL WORKSHOP Grace Lutheran Church in Lamar is having a Theological workshop Saturday, Feb. 6 and Sunday, Feb. 7, lead by the Rev. Dr. Peter Scaer, a Seminary professor, on the topic of the “Sacramental Theology of the Gospel of Mark and the Divine Service.”  The sessions on Saturday are from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon and from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.  The sessions on Sunday are from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.  We are invited.

BLOOD PRESSURE The opportunity to have your blood pressure taken and recorded after each service is available in the nurse’s office located off the narthex.  You will be given a card to carry with you to record your readings.

TAPES & CDS OF THE SERVICE Audio tapes and CDs of the service are available after the 8:15 am service each Sunday.  They are located in the glassed-door cabinet in the narthex.  The previous Sunday’s are also available.

ASSISTIVE LISTENING If you are having a hard time hearing the service, assistive listening devices are available from the ushers.  They work like a transistor radio and you can control the volume.

The Truth Project

“The Truth Project” is a dynamic look at what the Bible tells us (which is the truth) compared to the world’s view (which is often a lie).  It is a twelve week program which will include a DVD lesson and discussion.  There is no cost.  The program was developed by Focus on the Family and you can find information, DVD clips and more on the website: thetruthproject.org.  This study is open to everyone.  Invite friends and co-workers to join us.  We meet each Tuesday, at 6:30 in the Fellowship Hall.  You may contact Lora S., for more information.  Sign up sheet in the narthex.

NEW SUNDAY AM BIBLE CLASS We are starting a new study on the N.T. book of 2 Peter in the Sunday morning Bible class. It is a good time to join us if you have been thinking about coming. It starts at 9:30 am. Along with the study and fellowship, there is always a good cup of hot coffee and lots of goodies waiting for you.

2010 OFFERING ENVELOPES The 2010 offering envelopes are ready to be picked up. If you do not see your name and want envelopes, please contact the church office. Likewise, if you prefer not to use them and see your name, simply write NO on the label. Please remember to discard your 2009 envelopes and use only the 2010 envelopes.

2009 CONTRIBUTION STATEMENTS will be handed out the next few weeks. Contact Barbara S. if you have any questions.

THE CHURCH COUNCIL will meet this evening at 7:00 to set the agenda for the Voters’ Meeting on January 31st. All elected officers and chairpersons of the various boards are members of the church council.

(REPRINT FROM LAST WEEK) OUR THANKS to everyone who helped get our new pews here and who helped move our old ones out. It was a lot of work and we want you to know that you are appreciated. We will be doing additional work on the new pews as time allows. More on the pews later.

THE FUTURE OF GSLC-OUR CHILDREN Help wanted. There will be a Christian education planning session this Wednesday evening at 5:30 pm. I’d like to see all parents, teachers, volunteers, potential volunteers, and those with any ideas at the meeting. We’ll try to work out a calendar for the year, including VBS. All input and ideas are welcome, and I promise you won’t get roped into anything!

THE SHEPHERD’S STRINGS DULCIMER group will meet this Thursday at 7:00 pm. Interested in learning to play? Dulcimers are available to purchase through the instructor at a reasonable price.
