REMEMBER IN PRAYER  Fern H., having a hip replaced on Tuesday at McCune Brooks; Karen P., having back surgery this week; Jeanann G., Ann L., & Chuck P., undergoing treatment.

THANK YOU, GSLC BAND   The GSLC Band is providing the special musical praise for both services today.  We appreciate the talents of each of the band members, and thank Karen M., band director, for molding these talents together.
 
STAINED GLASS WINDOW  The first of the new stained glass windows will be installed tomorrow.  It represents the birth of Jesus, and shows the Christmas star that shines on the cradle of Jesus.  It will read, “Unto you is born a Savior, Christ the Lord”.  It will be placed in the first window on the right as you enter the sanctuary.

SOFTBALL  The co-ed team will play Monday evening at 8:30.  The men’s team will play Tuesday evening at 8:30.  Come and help cheer on the home teams!  GO TEAMS!

PLANNING FOR THE FUTURE  Next Sunday afternoon The Rev. Dr. Stuart Brassie, from the MO-District Office of the LCMS, will lead us in a planning session beginning at 1:30 pm. Dr. Brassie will help us focus on what direction we want to go, now that the expansion program is almost over, and how we will do it.  The planning session is open to everyone, and together, with our Lord’s guidance, we can look to a future that is focused and God-directed.

CONFIRMATION SUNDAY is May 30th, at which time seven of our young folks will make public confession of their faith through the Rite of Confirmation during the late service. 

THE ELDERS’ MEETING for May has been rescheduled to Monday evening the 24th at 7:00.

KID KITS  In the narthex are a number of bags containing crayons, coloring books, picture books and other items of interest for young children.  You are welcome to use them for your little ones.  Please return the “kid kit” after the service.

BLOOD PRESSURE  The opportunity to have your blood pressure taken and recorded after each service is available in the nurse’s office located off the narthex.  You will be given a card to carry with you to record your readings.

TAPES & CDS OF THE SERVICE  Audio tapes and CDs of the service are available after the 8:15 a.m. service each Sunday.  They are located in the glassed-door cabinet in the narthex.  The previous Sunday’s are also available.

ASSISTIVE LISTENING  If you are having a hard time hearing the service, assistive listening devices are available from the ushers.  They work like a transistor radio and you control the volume.

THE OVER-50 GOOD SHEPHERDS will get together this Thursday evening at 6:00.  Bring a snack, your ready-for-action- spirit, and join us for a fun evening of games and fellowship.  Fun, Food, Fellowship ~ doesn’t get any better than that!

GOLF LEAGUE UPDATE/CHANGES  The night for the golf league to play has been changed to Monday evenings.  It will still be at Briarbrook Golf Course, Carl Junction, at 5:30 pm.  Please let us know if you would like to play by using the sign up sheet in the narthex.  Team scores will be figured by handicaps, which will be figured after several weeks of play.  (This will not be a scramble league.)  Any questions contact Mary at the church office.  The league will probably begin on June 7th. 

ALTAR FLOWERS  If you would like to place flowers at the altar for a special occasion, in loving memory of someone, or in thankfulness, please write your name, phone number, and the occasion on the flower chart in the narthex.  If you order or purchase your flowers from 4-All Seasons Florist, 358-5828, or Third Day Creations, 237-0939, they will deliver here to the church and you will also receive a 10 % discount.  Any questions, contact Betty K.

DESSERT & SERVANT AUCTION REPORT  The Youth Group thanks everyone who participated in the Dessert and Servant auction last Sunday evening.  It was a wonderful evening!  A total of  $1700.00 was raised, and along with the $1000.00 matched donation, they now have enough to finance their trip.  The national youth gathering is July 17-21 at New Orleans.  THANK YOU!

LWML NEWS  The Southwest Zone will hold their 40th LWML Spring Rally today at Grace Lutheran Church in Lamar.  Registration will begin at 2:30 pm, with the rally starting at 3:00 pm.  The Rev. Brad Zerkel, a former member of our congregation, will be the guest speaker.  Everyone is asked to bring non-perishable food items to be donated to Our Redeemer Food Pantry and Good Samaritan in Lamar.  All ladies of our congregation are welcome.  We will meet at the church at 1:45 pm to car pool.

LWML will meet Wednesday evening at 6:30 pm.  Lora Samuelson will have the topic, and hostesses are Gerry Schnackenberg and Jan Garoutte.  All ladies of the congregation are invited. 

LWML MISSOURI DISTRICT 21ST BIENNIAL CONVENTION, “Beautiful Feet, Led by God”, will be held June 11-13th at University Plaza Hotel in Springfield.  The registration cost is $50.00, if postmarked on or before May 8th; meals, tours, etc. are available for additional fees.  Registration forms can be found on the table in the narthex.  If you plan to attend, please contact Corinne W.

“FOR SUCH A TIME AS THIS”  Thursday is the National Day of Prayer and we have several opportunities here at the church for you to join your prayers with many others throughout our country.  The church sanctuary will be open all day for private prayer.  You can come at any time.  The Thursday morning Bible class, which starts at 9:30, will use part of it’s time for prayer.  You are welcome to join them.  At 6:30 p.m. Pastor will lead a special prayer time in the sanctuary for our country, church and individuals and you are welcome to include your special prayer requests.

TRUSTEES’ MEETING The church trustees will meet this afternoon at 4:15. 

DESSERT & SERVANT AUCTION  The Youth Group will be hosting a Dessert and Servant Auction this evening at 5:00 pm.  Please bring your scrumptious dessert to be auctioned off to the highest bidder.  Additionally, each Youth Group member will be auctioned off for 4 hours worth of work.  The YG members are good at painting, cleaning, yard work, etc…  Additionally, the event is being hosted by the award winning Keith Z.  There is a church member who has graciously offered to match $ for $ up to $1,000.00.  This should be lots of fun, so you won’t want to miss it.  Hey! How Much Will Ya Give Me For It??

VOTERS’ MEETING  The voters will meet this evening at 7:00 pm.  Come participate in the Youth Dessert & Servant Auction and stay for the meeting.

ALL GRADUATES  If you are graduating from high school or college this spring, please submit a short bio and picture to the church office by April 26th.  We want to acknowledge you in the May issue of the Shepherd’s Staff.  Parents, we may need your help with this; we don’t want to leave anyone out.  You may also e-mail your photo and bio to Mary at mlparks@ecarthage.com or to the church e-mail at goodshepherd@ecarthage.com.
