Announcements — December 18, 2011

IN OUR PRAYERS Tom D., recovering from a knee replacement; Don H., undergoing treatment for cancer; Jon H., recovering at home.

GUEST SPEAKER Dr. Mike Wade is our guest speaker today in both services.  He and Ann have been  missionaries in various countries, the most recent being Kyrgyzstan.  They are home now caring for Ann’s father who is homebound.  We appreciate their service and his message today.

CHILDREN’S CHRISTMAS PROGRAM PRACTICE The final rehearsal will be after the late service today.  A light meal will be provided.

CHILDREN’S PROGRAM, A MOUSE’S TALE will be presented this evening at 7:00 pm.  Come hear the children talk and sing about the first Christmas, the story of our Savior’s birth in Bethlehem.  The story is narrated by Granny Mouse and told by the animals in the stable Christmas night.  It is a beautiful story, made all the more special when interpreted through the voices and faces of our children.

2012 OFFERING ENVELOPES The 2012 offering envelopes are on the table in the narthex.  Please remember to discard your 2011 envelopes and use only the 2012 envelopes beginning Sunday, January 1.  If you do not see your name and want envelopes, please contact the church office.  Likewise, if you prefer not to use them and see your name, simply write NO on the label.

THE EVANGELISM COMMITTEE invites you to visit their “Christmas Outreach” table located in the narthex.  There you will find information and ideas about sharing Jesus with others and some inexpensive gift ideas that focus on keeping Christ in Christmas.  Donations are appreciated.

LAYMAN’S PRE-CHRISTMAS SERVICES Come and worship each day this week as the community comes together to celebrate the birth of our Savior.  The services are limited to 30 minutes.   Beginning Monday evening, Dec. 19th at 7:00 pm, Tuesday through Friday mornings at 7:00 am.  Doug Dickey will be doing the music on Wednesday morning, Dec. 21.  The services are at The Church of the Nazarene, 2000 South Grand, Carthage.

FLOWER CHART, 2012 If you would like to place flowers at the altar for a special occasion or in memory of someone, please sign the flower chart hanging on the wall next to the water fountain in the hallway.  Simply write your name, phone number, and occasion with the pen provided.

LWML DATE CHANGE The Women’s Missionary group will have their first meeting of the new year on Wednesday, Jan. 11, instead of Jan. 4.  The new Quarterly magazine is available on the table in the narthex for anyone to read.

WOMEN’S RETREAT Jan. 27-29, 2012, are the dates of the Women’s Retreat to be held at the beautiful Wyndham Branson at the Meadows Resort, Branson, MO.  Offered, at no cost to you, are three bedroom condos with a kitchenette and fold out sofa, that will sleep 8.  There will be a $10.00 registration fee for each one attending.  Please make your check payable to the LWML and give to Mary at the church office.  The theme for this year’s retreat is, Say yes to the dress—your Bridegroom is coming!  There is a sign-up sheet in the narthex to reserve your condo.

CD’S AND TAPES OF THE SERVICE Audio tapes and CD’s of the service are available after the 8:15 am service each Sunday.  They are located in the glassed-door cabinet in the narthex.

ASSISTIVE LISTENING If you are having a hard time hearing the service, assistive listening devices are available from the ushers.  They work like a transistor radio and you can control the volume.

BLOOD PRESSURE CHECKS are available in the narthex after each service.  You will be given a small form that can be carried in your wallet which will include medical information and a log of your blood pressure readings.

PRAYER BEARS are in the sanctuary pews and available to be signed out (notebook in narthex) and given to anyone that needs God’s love, comfort, and peace.  We have had reports and words of thanks from folks being blessed by this outreach ministry.

IN OUR PRAYERS  Hans & Laura D., at the death of their son, Bentley C.; Bula G., recovering from surgery; Don H., undergoing treatment for cancer.

BENTLEY COLE DOBBINS, son of Hans & Laura D., was stillborn on Tuesday, Dec. 6, at Freeman Hospital.  We pray for God’s comfort to Hans, Laura and their families at this difficult time. 

CHILDREN’S CHRISTMAS PROGRAM PRACTICE  Rehearsals are planned for after the late service today and next Sunday.  A light meal will be provided.  A helping hand with the food would be greatly appreciated.  Let us know what you can donate by using the sign up sheet at the Sunday School table in the narthex. 

MOTHER’S DAY OUT TODAY  If you want to go Christmas shopping without your children, the youth group will baby sit for you this afternoon from 1:00 to 5:00 here at the church.  There will be games, crafts and even snacks for the children while you are shopping to your heart’s content.  There is a sign up sheet in the narthex to let the youth group know how many to plan for.

Announcements — December 4, 2001

IN OUR PRAYERS Laura D. & unborn son, under care at Freeman Hospital; Bula G., recovering from surgery; Don H., recovering from pneumonia and undergoing treatment for cancer; the family of Bill S., who passed away Nov. 27; David C., Bonnie L., and June R., in extended care facilities.

WILLIAM “BILL” STOKLEY Bill, 81, was received into the arms of his Savior on Sunday, Nov. 27, 2011.  He was a resident at the Veteran’s Home in Mt. Vernon at the time of his death.  A funeral service, officiated by Pastor Schnackenberg, was held on Friday morning in Kansas City, MO.  Internment was at Green Lawn Cemetery, Kansas City.  Bill is survived by three sisters, Janet S., Virginia S., and Mary O..  We pray for God’s blessings of comfort to Bill’s family.

WOMEN’S EVENT The LWML is sponsoring a Holiday Event for all ladies of the congregation this evening.  There will be a light meal served at 6:30, so don’t eat before you come.  The Secret Sisters will do their reveal, and everyone attending is asked to bring a wrapped ornament to participate in the “trading game”.  All those who wish to participate in a cookie exchange should bring a batch of cookies on a decorative plate.  Ziplock bags and paper plates will be provided to collect your assortment of cookies.  Hope to see you this evening.

ADVENT This Sunday begins the Advent season of the church year, the time before Christmas when we prepare ourselves for the celebration of the birth of our Savior.  Plan to attend the Mid-week Advent services, which begin this Wednesday evening at 7:00 pm.
