Announcements — September 6, 2009

REMEMBER IN PRAYER:  Thelma M., in Freeman Hospital; Katherine R., at St. John’s Hospital; Jeremy S., recovering from back surgery; Marty J., Ann L., and Chuck P., undergoing treatment.

SPECIAL VOTERS’ MEETING  A special Voters’ Meeting has been set for after the late service today to nominate a person to be considered as the delegate from the Southwest Circuit for the LC-MS Convention in Houston in July of 2010.

LWML  The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League will have its meeting this Wednesday evening, cancelled from last week, at 6:30.  Mary P. will have the topic, and Melody S. and Brenda K. are the hostesses.  We will be finalizing the plans for the Women’s Retreat at Heit’s Point, Sept. 19-20, and making plans for the Women to Women Night Out in October.  All ladies of the congregation are invited.

SOFTBALL GAMES  The Co-Ed team will play Monday evening at 7:30 and the Men’s team  will play Tuesday at 7:30 pm.

JR CONFIRMATION will begin on Wednesday evening, September 16th at 6:30.  Pastor will meet with students and parents after both worship services next Sunday to discuss the class schedule and answer any questions.

SUNDAY SCHOOL RALLY DAY will be next Sunday.  Parents be sure and join your children for Sunday School, enjoy a treat, and watch the beautiful, always anticipated balloon launch.

MOUNTAIN DULCIMER DEMONSTRATION and beginner class will be held September 16th from 7:00-8:00 pm here at Good Shepherd.  Elaine S., the 2004 Southern Regional Champion, will be the instructor.  For more information, contact Lee Ann B.  Lee Ann assures us that no special musical talent is required, and that anyone can learn to play the dulcimer.

GOLF ANYONE?  Do you golf?  Have you always wanted to give it a try?  Here’s your chance.  Open to all and everyone.  Immanuel at Joplin has invited us to play golf with them on Saturday, Sept. 19th.  The two or four person scramble will take place at the Carthage Municipal Course.  All of the plans have not yet been finalized.  Gene L., is the go-to-guy here at Good Shepherd if you have any questions.  A sign-up sheet is in the narthex.

MEN’S RETREAT  October 9th & 10th  are the dates planned for a Men’s Retreat at Pelican Landing in Oklahoma.  The cost is $15.00, plus the cost of the food.  There is a sign up sheet in the narthex, and if you have any questions, contact Sonny E.

PARENTS, WE’RE CHECKING OUR RECORDS  It’s been several years since we’ve checked and updated the school records for all the children in the congregation.  Parents, please take the time to fill out, one for each child, the information form Children’s Ministry, found in the narthex.  Drop it in the basket provided or leave it in the church office.  Thanks.
                                                  
TAPES OF THE SERVICE  Audio tapes of the service are available after the 8:15 a.m. service each Sunday.  They are located in the glassed-door cabinet in the narthex.  Tapes of the previous Sunday are also available.

ASSISTIVE LISTENING  If you are having a hard time hearing the service, assistive listening devices are available from the ushers.  They work like a transistor radio and you can control the volume.

BLOOD PRESSURE  After each service, at the table in the narthex, you have the opportunity to have your blood pressure taken.  You will be given a card to carry with you to record your readings
