CONGREGATIONAL DINNER  Please join us today, at noon, for a congregational dinner as part of our Rally Day celebration.  The meat is being provided by the Fellowship Committee, smoked chicken, and side dishes by members.  With all the good food and fellowship you don’t want to miss it!

SUNDAY SCHOOL RALLY DAY is today.  Parents, be sure to join your children for Sunday School, enjoy a treat, and watch the beautiful, always anticipated, balloon launch.

SOFTBALL GAMES  The Co-Ed team will play Monday evening at 7:30 and the Men’s team will play Tuesday at 8:30 pm.

JR CONFIRMATION will begin this Wednesday evening, September 16th, at 6:30.  Pastor will meet with students and parents after both worship services today to discuss the class schedule and to answer any questions.

MOUNTAIN DULCIMER DEMONSTRATION and beginner class will be held September 16th from 7:00-8:00 pm here at Good Shepherd.  Elaine Smith, the 2004 Southern Regional Champion, will be the instructor.  For more information, contact Lee Ann B.  Lee Ann assures us that no special musical talent is required, and that anyone can learn to play the dulcimer.

THE ELDERS meeting is Monday evening, Sept. 21st, at 7:00, not the 14th as stated on the newsletter calendar. 

GOLF ANYONE?  Do you golf?  Have you always wanted to give it a try?  Here’s your chance.  Open to all and everyone.  Immanuel at Joplin has invited us to play golf with them on Saturday, Sept. 19th.  The two or four person scramble will take place at the Carthage Municipal Course.  All of the plans have not yet been finalized.  Gene L., is the go-to-guy here at Good Shepherd, if you have any questions.  A sign-up sheet is in the narthex.

WOMEN’S BIBLE STUDY  How can studying the life of David help us in our lives today?  We are about to find out in a ladies bible study entitled, Anointed, Transformed, Redeemed.  This class will meet for seven weeks with prayer, fellowship, and a DVD session covering the life and reign of David.  Not only will we get a deeper understanding of this great man and his relationship with the Lord, but we will also hopefully gain a deeper relationship with God and each other.  Sign up in the narthex—cost is $15.00 for the workbooks.  We have tentatively planned on meeting Tuesday nights beginning on Sept. 22nd, here at the church.  Call Lora S. for more information. 

THURSDAY AM BIBLE STUDY has decided not to meet through the month of September.  They will resume their study of the Book of Romans on the first Thursday in October.  

MEN’S RETREAT  October 9th & 10th  are the dates planned for a Men’s Retreat at Pelican Landing in Oklahoma.  The cost is $15.00, plus the cost of the food.  There is a sign up sheet in the narthex, and if you have any questions, contact Sonny E.

PARENTS, WE’RE CHECKING OUR RECORDS  It’s been several years since we’ve checked and updated the school records for all the children in the congregation.  Parents, please take the time to fill out, one for each child, the information form Children’s Ministry, found in the narthex.  Drop it in the basket provided or leave it in the church office.  Thanks.

SPECIAL VOTERS’ MEETING  A special Voters’ Meeting has been set for after the late service today to nominate a person to be considered as the delegate from the Southwest Circuit for the LC-MS Convention in Houston in July of 2010.

LWML  The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League will have its meeting this Wednesday evening, cancelled from last week, at 6:30.  Mary P. will have the topic, and Melody S. and Brenda K. are the hostesses.  We will be finalizing the plans for the Women’s Retreat at Heit’s Point, Sept. 19-20, and making plans for the Women to Women Night Out in October.  All ladies of the congregation are invited.

WE NEED YOUR HELP for the 9:00 am break for Laborers and volunteers.  If you can give an hour and a half of your time, Tuesday through Saturday, for a week in September, please notify the church office, 358-1325, or use the sign up sheet in the narthex.  You will need to organize the food donations and set up the snacks and drinks for the volunteers and Laborers.  Your help is greatly appreciated.

WE NEED YOUR HELP for Saturday lunches.  We have no one signed up to provide a light lunch for the Laborers and volunteers this coming Saturday, August 29th, and on September 5th and 26th.  Please see the sign up sheet in the narthex.

SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHERS NEEDED  We are in need of teachers for the fall Sunday School classes that will begin in September.  Please visit with Angela or Walter R. if you are interested in helping provide important spiritual guidance to our young folks through teaching a class or being available to substitute. 

NEW LOCKS  With the replacement of some of the outside doors comes new door locks.  If you have a church key now you will have to get a new one, because the old ones will no longer work.  Please contact Bradley Moll at for a key.
